This week, as part of our Serious Talk curriculum, the class continued our conversation about stereotypes and why people put "labels" on others, how they do not always fit their identity, and what we can do to stop them. As a result, a student in the classroom shared with me the YouTube video called, "I am NOT Black, You are NOT White" by Prince Ea who is a social-justice poet, activist. This powerful video helped make students more aware as to why our work towards dismantling racism and breaking stereotypes is so important to our learning and the world around us. Additionally, the students were so inspired video that they wrote their own anti-stereotype poems entitled, "Just Because" proclaiming who they are proud to be!
