This week, as part of our Serious Talk curriculum, the class continued our conversation about stereotypes and why people put "labels" on others, how they do not always fit their identity, and what we can do to stop them. As a result, a student in the classroom shared with me the YouTube video called, "I am NOT Black, You are NOT White" by Prince Ea who is a social-justice poet, activist. This powerful video helped make students more aware as to why our work towards dismantling racism and breaking stereotypes is so important to our learning and the world around us. Additionally, the students were so inspired video that they wrote their own anti-stereotype poems entitled, "Just Because" proclaiming who they are proud to be!
Strike up the band! The New England Brass Quartet came to perform for the Fourth Graders today as well as to teach them about the amazing brass instrument family. The students were enthralled with their beautiful playing and laughed at all their silly jokes. One lucky Team 25 member got to play in their closing song.
As a result of being respectful and engaging students during a guidance lesson, I am excited to announce that Team 25 won the Bowman Big Bear to visit our classroom this week! Check out the Big Bear Blog daily to see all the fun things he will be learning from our amazing students.
Great Job Team! Way to go Grade 4 Spring Concert Singers! Your voices and performances were beautiful which, I know you all worked very hard to learn. Keep up the great music!
